Now at Nottingham Forest, the manager opens up about his departure from Spurs, which happened shortly after a major trophy win.
Postecoglou Knew Sacking Was Coming Before Europa League Win

Ange Postecoglou, the new manager of Nottingham Forest, has shared his thoughts on being let go by Tottenham just 16 days after leading them to a Europa League trophy. Despite the big win against Manchester United, which ended the club’s 17-year wait for a trophy, Postecoglou revealed he was not surprised by the decision.

🤔 A Bittersweet Victory

While the Europa League win was a major achievement, it came at the end of a very difficult season for Spurs in the Premier League. The team finished in 17th place after losing 22 of their 38 matches. This poor league performance created a challenging situation, where the joy of winning a European trophy was overshadowed by struggles in their domestic games.

🏆 Postecoglou’s Perspective

Looking back, the 60-year-old manager said he knew his time at the club was coming to an end even before the final. “I knew it was coming so it wasn’t a surprise,” he explained. Postecoglou chose to focus on the positive moments, such as the victory parade, and didn’t want the situation to spoil the team’s achievement. He added, “Whether I feel it was unjust, other people made those decisions… you’d have to ask them their reasoning for it.”

➡️ A New Chapter and a Future Reunion

Postecoglou has since taken charge at Nottingham Forest, replacing Nuno Espirito Santo. Meanwhile, his former role at Spurs has been filled by ex-Brentford manager Thomas Frank, who has started the season well. Fans can look forward to an interesting match in early December when Tottenham and Forest face each other, which will likely be a warm return for Postecoglou from the Spurs supporters.
