Dortmund Fans Boycott Copenhagen Match Over Ticket Rules

Two major fan groups will miss the Champions League game due to strict ticketing requirements.
Dortmund Fans Boycott Copenhagen Match Over Ticket Rules

Borussia Dortmund will be without some of their most passionate supporters for their upcoming Champions League match against FC Copenhagen. Two of the club’s main fan groups, The Unity and Desperados, have announced they will not travel to the game in protest of what they consider unreasonable ticketing demands.

The core issue is the requirement for all tickets to be personalized, meaning fans must present personal identification to enter the stadium. The fan groups believe this policy is overly restrictive. This is not a new issue, as the same groups also boycotted a match in Copenhagen for the exact same reason back in 2022.

🎟️ Why the Fans Are Staying Home

The decision to boycott the match on October 21st was made because of FC Copenhagen’s ticketing procedures. Both The Unity and Desperados feel that making tickets personal and requiring ID checks is an unnecessary restriction on supporters who travel to away games. They have chosen to stay away rather than comply with these rules.

⏳ A Repeat of the 2022 Protest

This situation is a direct repeat of what happened in November 2022, when the two clubs last met in the Champions League. On that occasion, the fan groups also refused to attend due to the same ticket personalization policy. Their latest decision shows a consistent stance against these types of regulations for away matches.

🗣️ A Clear Statement from Supporters

In an official statement, the fan groups explained their decision. “As with the last meeting in November 2022, this match will unfortunately be under restrictions that include personalization of tickets,” they said. “With that in mind, we have decided not to participate in the match.” The Unity is known as the leading “Ultras” group for Dortmund and also shares a friendly relationship with fans of Brondby IF, who are the main rivals of FC Copenhagen.
