Spain's Second League Promises an Unpredictable 2025/26 Season

Spain’s second division, known as LaLiga Hypermotion, is back and looks more exciting than ever for the 2025/26 season. The league is famous for being highly competitive, where the gap between teams fighting for promotion and those trying to avoid relegation is often very small. This season features a fascinating mix of historic clubs aiming for a comeback and smaller teams ready to challenge them.

🏰 Historic Clubs Aim for a Return

The league includes 17 teams that have previously played in Spain’s top division. Among them are famous clubs like RC Deportivo and Real Zaragoza, who have won major trophies in the past. Both teams will be looking for a much better season after finishing near the bottom last year. Other well-known clubs like Real Sporting, Real Racing Club de Santander, and Málaga CF are also determined to return to the top flight. Real Sporting, in particular, will be motivated to rejoin LaLiga after a nine-year absence, especially after seeing their local rivals Real Oviedo get promoted last season.

⬆️ Relegated Teams Seek an Immediate Bounce-Back

The three teams that were relegated from LaLiga last season—Real Valladolid, UD Las Palmas, and CD Leganés—are all hoping to get promoted again straight away. However, this is a tough challenge. Last season, none of the teams that came down from the top division managed an immediate return, which shows just how competitive this league is. All three clubs are starting fresh with new managers, hoping a change in leadership will guide them back to the top.

✨ Newcomers Bring Fresh and Unique Stories

Four newly promoted teams are joining the league, each with an interesting background. FC Andorra, a club owned by former football star Gerard Piqué, is back in the second division after just one year away. AD Ceuta’s promotion is also a special story, as it means league matches will be played on the African continent for the first time in 57 years. Cultural Leonesa will be hoping to stay in the division for longer this time, while Real Sociedad’s B team gives young players a chance to compete against experienced senior teams.

🔄 New Coaches and Players Signal a Fresh Start

Many teams will have a different look this season due to changes in players and coaches. The top two goalscorers from last season have moved to new clubs, creating an opportunity for new stars to emerge. In addition, eight clubs have appointed new managers. This includes the three relegated teams, as well as FC Andorra, where former player Ibai Gómez is now in charge. These changes add another layer of unpredictability to a league already known for its surprises.
