On a day Strasbourg celebrated a victory against Le Havre, the mood was soured by events off the pitch. Captain Emanuel Emegha, who is set to join Chelsea at the end of the season, faced a hostile reception from a section of the home supporters, even though he was not playing due to injury.
😠 Fans Express Their Unhappiness
While Emegha was at the stadium to receive a Player of the Month award, the moment was met with boos from some fans. A banner was also displayed in the stands with a message reading, “Emegha, pawn of BlueCo. After changing shirt, give back your captain’s armband.” This reaction stems from the frustration of some Strasbourg supporters over the club’s shared ownership with Chelsea, feeling their team is being used to benefit the Premier League side.
🗣️ Coach Rosenior Speaks Out
Strasbourg coach Liam Rosenior expressed his deep disappointment with the fans’ actions after the game. He shared that both he and the 22-year-old striker were “devastated” by the incident. Rosenior described the banner against one of the team’s best players from the previous season as “unacceptable,” emphasizing that his players have an excellent attitude and deserve much better treatment from the supporters.
🛡️ A Strong Defence for the Captain
Rosenior stood firmly by his player and confirmed that Emanuel Emegha will continue to serve as the team’s captain for as long as he remains with the club. He also made it clear that this negative behaviour came from a “minority” of the supporters and did not represent the entire fanbase, reiterating his pride in his players and their commitment.
