Former Manchester United player Phil Jones has shared his thoughts on the future of rising star Kobbie Mainoo, suggesting the young midfielder could look for a move in January if he doesn’t get more playing time.
Mainoo’s situation is complicated by strong competition for his position, particularly from team captain Bruno Fernandes. The club’s absence from European competitions this season also reduces the number of available matches, limiting opportunities for the entire squad.
🌟 A Rising Star’s Impressive Debut
Phil Jones, who previously coached in the club’s academy, spoke very highly of Kobbie Mainoo. He clearly remembered Mainoo’s first start against Everton, where the young player “absolutely bossed the game” and showed great maturity. Jones praised his consistent and strong performances throughout that breakout season, highlighting his significant potential.
🤔 A Tough Spot in the Midfield
Despite his talent, Mainoo seems to be facing a challenge for a regular spot in the team. Jones noted that the manager has indicated that Mainoo and Bruno Fernandes are unlikely to play together in the midfield. With Fernandes in excellent form and leading the team with goals and assists, it is difficult for Mainoo to get into the starting lineup in his preferred role.
⏳ Limited Games and a Possible Loan
The situation is made more challenging because Man Utd is not playing in any European competitions this season. This means fewer games and fewer chances for squad players like Mainoo to get valuable minutes on the field. Jones believes that if this lack of game time continues until the winter transfer window, Mainoo might push for a loan move to play more regularly elsewhere.
