Gordon Defends Teammate Woltemade After Criticism

Newcastle’s new striker, Nick Woltemade, has made an impressive start with three goals for his new club. However, his €90 million transfer from VfB Stuttgart has drawn sharp criticism from Bayern Munich’s Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, who questioned the high price tag. Now, Woltemade’s teammate, Anthony Gordon, has stepped in to share his thoughts.

🤔 Questioning the Criticism

Anthony Gordon expressed confusion over Rummenigge’s comments, finding the timing strange given Woltemade’s positive performance. “I don’t understand how you can talk about a player who isn’t at his club. Honestly, it’s a bit stupid,” Gordon said. He pointed out that such remarks might be understandable if a player was struggling, but Woltemade has been scoring goals and settling in well.

💬 A Teammate’s Strong Support

Gordon defended his new teammate, emphasizing that the criticism was unwarranted. He felt it was unfair to judge the transfer so early, especially when Woltemade is already proving his worth on the field. “You can make that kind of comment if the player is off to a bad start. But this is a bit strange, he’s just scored three goals,” he added, showing strong support for the German striker.

⚽️ A Different Style of Play

Beyond the transfer talk, Gordon praised Woltemade’s unique skills and how he contributes to the team. He noted that Woltemade offers a different approach compared to striker Alexander Isak, which will take some time for the team to adapt to. “He’s a completely different player… so it will take us a little time to get used to his style of play,” Gordon explained. “He was excellent… It’s a pleasure to play alongside him.”
