Recent talk about Aston Villa’s owners potentially buying the Spanish club Sevilla has been addressed by former football chief Monchi. Having worked with both clubs, he provided some clear insights into the owners’ current priorities, putting the takeover rumors to rest.
Monchi, who left his role at Aston Villa last month, explained that the club’s ownership is fully dedicated to its investment in the Premier League side. Based on his conversations with co-owner Nassef Sawiris, their focus is singular and ambitious, centered entirely on building up Aston Villa.
🗣️ Setting the Record Straight
Monchi shared that he maintains a close relationship with Aston Villa’s co-owner, Nassef Sawiris, and confirmed their commitment is firmly with the English club. He stated, “They’re very focused on their investment in Aston Villa.” This clarification directly counters the speculation that they might be looking to acquire a major club like Sevilla.
🏟️ Big Plans for Villa Park
A significant part of the owners’ focus involves major infrastructure projects. Monchi highlighted a key development: “There will be a redevelopment of Villa Park, which will have 10,000 more seats, and a lot of money will be invested there.” This large-scale project shows a long-term commitment to improving the club’s home ground and overall fan experience.
🌐 A Different Kind of Expansion
While a takeover of a major club like Sevilla is not on the cards, the owners are considering a different expansion strategy. Monchi mentioned they might look at “buying some satellite clubs… but small-scale clubs.” This approach aims to support Aston Villa’s main operations rather than running another large, parallel club. He concluded, “I don’t see it being Aston Villa and another major club.”
