Former Barcelona forward Gerard Deulofeu has shared his strong belief in his old club’s potential, stating that they can “win it all” this season. He highlighted the incredible talent of young stars Lamine Yamal and Pedri, viewing them as the key to a new era of success for the team.
In a recent interview, Deulofeu discussed the bright future he sees for Barcelona under coach Hansi Flick. He also took the time to reflect on his own career journey, from a challenging start at Camp Nou to memorable periods in England and Italy, and his current special relationship with his club, Udinese, as he recovers from a long-term injury.
🌟 Barcelona’s Bright Future
Deulofeu expressed great admiration for Barcelona’s current squad, particularly for Lamine Yamal and Pedri. He described them as “football creators for the next 10-15 years at the highest level” and believes that with them, “Barcelona will always be candidates to win the Champions League and LaLiga.” He is a big fan of the team’s aggressive, creative attacking style under Hansi Flick and encouraged fans to be very enthusiastic. Deulofeu added that a player with Lamine Yamal’s immense talent would have succeeded anywhere in the world, even if his opportunity at Barça hadn’t come so early.
🤔 Reflecting on a Challenging Start
Looking back on his own time at Barcelona, Deulofeu described it as “very irregular.” As a young player, he found it difficult to secure a regular spot on a team filled with world-class stars like Lionel Messi, Neymar, Luis Suarez, David Villa, and Alexis Sanchez. “It wasn’t so easy to get your head out of the door with the players that were there,” he explained. While he accepts the high expectations placed on him and feels he could have been more patient, he remains proud of his career and grateful to Barcelona for providing the foundation for his professional journey.
✈️ A Career Across Europe
Deulofeu’s career has taken him to some of Europe’s top leagues, where he created many positive memories. He fondly recalled his time in the Premier League, especially his first “spectacular” season with Everton under coach Roberto Martinez and a later successful partnership with Romelu Lukaku. He also had a great period at Watford, where he reinvented himself as a striker and helped the team reach an FA Cup final. However, he holds a special place in his heart for AC Milan, calling it “the biggest club in Italy” and describing the experience of playing at the San Siro as “spectacular,” thanks to the passionate fans.
🙏 Loyalty and Hope at Udinese
Currently, Deulofeu has a unique and supportive relationship with his club, Udinese. While his contract was terminated by mutual agreement to help with club administration, he continues his injury rehabilitation at their facilities. He sees this as a “vote of confidence” from the club’s owners, the Pozzo family, with whom he has a “spectacular relationship.” He still feels very much a part of the team and speaks of their goals as his own. Deulofeu hopes to return to the pitch soon and dedicate his first goal back to his family and the club’s president to repay their unwavering trust.
