Barcelona’s director of football, Deco, has shared his perspective on why the new environment might be a better fit for the 27-year-old. While the club is happy with his contributions, a final decision on his future has yet to be made.
🤔 Deco’s View on Rashford’s Past Struggles
Deco suggested that Rashford’s time at Man Utd was complicated by frequent changes in coaching staff and the high expectations placed on him. “He’s a very high-level player; he exploded very early,” Deco explained. “Then he had years of more complicated management with changes of coaches, and perhaps he struggled too because they demanded a lot of things from him there.” This instability may have made it difficult for Rashford to perform consistently.

Since arriving at Barcelona, Rashford has shown the skills that made him a top player. Deco confirmed the club is pleased with his impact, stating, “What we thought he could bring to us, he’s bringing.” After more than 420 games and 138 goals for Man Utd, Rashford’s move followed a strained relationship with manager Ruben Amorim. Now, under manager Hansi Flick, he appears to be thriving.
⏳ A Decision on the Horizon
Barcelona has the option to sign Rashford permanently for around €30 million at the end of the season. However, Deco mentioned that it’s “too early” to discuss a permanent move, as the team is focused on the current season. Recent injuries to teammates Lamine Yamal and Raphinha have given Rashford more playing time, offering him a great chance to prove his value and secure a long-term place at the club.
