Premier League club Chelsea are reportedly keen on signing Lazio defender Mario Gila, with Inter Milan also showing interest. However, completing the deal won’t be straightforward, as Lazio are holding firm on their conditions, partly due to a complication involving Gila’s former club, Real Madrid.
⚽ Chelsea’s Interest in the Defender
Chelsea are said to be preparing a bid of around €30 million for Mario Gila as the January transfer window approaches. The London-based club is looking to strengthen its defense, and Gila has emerged as a key target. They face competition from Serie A giants Inter Milan, who are also monitoring the defender’s situation closely.
🤔 The Real Madrid Factor
A significant hurdle in the negotiations is a clause in Gila’s contract. His former club, Real Madrid, is entitled to 50% of any future transfer fee. This means if Lazio were to accept a €30 million offer, they would only keep €15 million. As a result, Lazio considers this amount to be far too low and is looking for a much higher bid to make a sale worthwhile.
📝 Lazio’s Current Priority
For now, Lazio’s main focus is not on selling Gila but on extending his contract. By securing him to a new deal, the club hopes to strengthen its negotiating position for any future offers. Lazio has made it clear that they will only consider selling Gila if an offer comes in that satisfies both their valuation and accounts for the 50% sell-on clause owed to Real Madrid.
