Kingsley Coman’s recent move from Bayern Munich to Al-Nassr has sparked a discussion, with French football legend Bixente Lizarazu sharing his thoughts on the transfer. As a former Bayern player himself, Lizarazu expressed his surprise and questioned the sporting motivation behind the decision.
Lizarazu believes that for a player of Coman’s calibre and age, the move to the Saudi Pro League is not a step forward in his career. He feels the league doesn’t offer the competitive challenge needed for a player to reach their full potential.
🤔 A Question of Ambition
Lizarazu stated that he cannot be convinced that moving to Saudi Arabia is a choice based on sporting ambition. “It’s not a league that helps you grow,” he explained, suggesting that the environment is not ideal for professional development at the highest level.
⚽ Missed Opportunities in Europe
According to Lizarazu, Coman had the talent to continue playing in one of Europe’s top leagues. He pointed out that a move to England, for example, would have been a better choice for pushing his career to new heights and competing against the world’s best.
📉 A Step Back for a Young Player?
Lizarazu described the transfer as a “sporting retreat,” especially considering Coman is still in his prime. While he acknowledged that N’Golo Kanté was called back to the national team while playing for Al-Ittihad, he feels Coman’s situation is different and that this move may limit his future opportunities at the top level of the sport.
