Klopp on the Tough Call to Replace Rose

Jurgen Klopp shares his thoughts on the difficult but necessary decision to part ways with manager Marco Rose at RB Leipzig.
Klopp on the Tough Call to Replace Rose

Jurgen Klopp, in his new role as Red Bull’s head of global soccer, has made his first major move by replacing Marco Rose as the manager of Leipzig. The decision came after a 1-0 defeat to Monchengladbach, which left the team in sixth place in the Bundesliga.

Although the dismissal followed a loss, it reflects a deeper strategy from Klopp. Despite Rose leading the team to win two trophies and securing 72 victories in 125 matches, Klopp felt a change was necessary for the club’s long-term stability and direction.

🤔 A Difficult but Necessary Decision

Klopp admitted that firing a manager is not something he enjoys. “It’s not great. It will never be my hobby,” he said. However, he stressed the importance of making such calls for the right reasons, rather than giving in to pressure from the media. He explained that his goal is to hire and part ways with coaches based on a clear and well-thought-out process.

💬 Building Trust Through Hard Times

Klopp also shared his philosophy on club stability. “I want to instil… more trust, going through the hard times,” he stated. He observed that opinions in football can change very quickly. “The world is like that: ‘Oh my God, you are great!’ Then it is, ‘Oh no! You’re not good enough.’ There’s no grey area anymore.” He believes that real life and progress often happen in this “grey area,” and stability is key.

➡️ What’s Next for Leipzig?

While taking on this significant new role, Klopp confirmed he has no immediate plans to return to day-to-day management. He is focused on his responsibilities behind the scenes at Red Bull. To guide Leipzig forward, he has already appointed Ole Werner as the new manager, hoping to bring a fresh start to the team.
