Kasper Hjulmand Takes Over as Bayer Leverkusen Manager

Bayer Leverkusen has announced Kasper Hjulmand as their new manager. The former Denmark national team coach joins the club on a two-year contract, stepping in to replace Erik ten Hag, who was let go after just a few games into the season.

👔 A New Challenge for Hjulmand

Kasper Hjulmand is making his return to club football for the first time since 2019. He expressed his excitement for the new role, stating he has always seen Bayer Leverkusen as a well-run and ambitious club. “The task motivates me greatly,” Hjulmand said, adding, “It’s an honour to be entrusted with such a team.” He is eager to work with both experienced and new players to build on the club’s past successes. His first match in charge will be at home against Frankfurt on Friday.

🔄 Why the Sudden Change?

The change in leadership comes after a difficult start to the Bundesliga season for Leverkusen. The team, under former manager Erik ten Hag, lost their opening league match 2-1 to Hoffenheim and then drew 3-3 with Werder Bremen. This was a disappointing beginning, especially after a solid pre-season and a win in the DFB Pokal. As a result, ten Hag, who had only joined in the summer after leaving Manchester United, was dismissed after just three official games.

展望 A Vision for the Future

Leverkusen’s sporting director, Simon Rolfes, expressed confidence in the new appointment. He noted that the club is already familiar with Hjulmand’s methods, as his former assistant coach in the Denmark team, Ismael Camenforte, had previously worked at Leverkusen. “We’re very pleased about the appointment of Kasper Hjulmand,” Rolfes said. The club believes he is the right person to bring back a “clear and dominant playing style” and guide the team towards achieving its ambitious goals both in Germany and in Europe.
