Former Bayern defender and club legend Jerome Boateng is starting a new chapter in his career by stepping into coaching. After recently retiring from professional football, he is planning to return to Bayern for an internship under the team’s manager, Vincent Kompany, who is also his former teammate.
🎓 A New Beginning in Coaching
Jerome Boateng has wasted no time planning his future after ending his playing career. The World Cup and two-time Champions League winner has already earned his UEFA B coaching license. He shared his excitement about this new path, stating, “I successfully completed the training course and the B license exam. I now want to complete a few internships.” He confirmed that he has spoken with Kompany and is looking forward to the opportunity at Bayern, once they find the right time.
🤝 A Warm Welcome from Kompany
Manager Vincent Kompany is very open to having Boateng join the coaching staff for an internship. The two have known each other for a long time, having played together at Hamburg and Manchester City. Kompany spoke positively about Boateng’s potential as a coach, saying, “He can become a top coach if he works hard.” He added that while a permanent coaching role isn’t being discussed publicly, “an internship for a few weeks, sure, of course, he’s always invited to that as a Bayern legend.”
🏆 Learning from a Legend’s Experience
Boateng’s return to Bayern, even as an intern, is seen as a positive move for the club. With an incredible 25 trophies won during his time at Bayern, his experience is highly valuable. Kompany acknowledged this, noting that the team “can benefit from his experience as a world-class defender.” This internship offers a great opportunity for Boateng to learn the ropes of coaching while sharing his champion’s mindset with the current squad.
