The NBA’s small circle of undefeated teams has now shrunk to just one: the defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder. After both the Chicago Bulls and San Antonio Spurs lost their first games of the season on Sunday, the Thunder are now the only team left with a perfect record.
Oklahoma City’s 7-0 start is particularly impressive, as they are leading the league in defensive performance and have achieved this success even without some of their key players. Meanwhile, the Bulls and Spurs also had historic starts to their seasons before their first defeats.
🏆 Thunder Remain Perfect at 7-0
The Thunder continued their dominant run with a big 137-106 victory over the winless New Orleans Pelicans. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led the way with an outstanding performance, scoring 30 points and providing seven assists. Impressively, the Thunder have achieved their 7-0 record for the second season in a row, even while missing key players. All-NBA Third Team member Jalen Williams is still recovering from wrist surgery, and center Chet Holmgren has missed three games with a back sprain.
🐂 Bulls’ Strong Start Ends in New York
The Chicago Bulls’ perfect start to the season came to an end with a 128-116 loss to the New York Knicks. Despite the defeat, Josh Giddey had a fantastic game for the Bulls, recording a triple-double with 23 points, 12 rebounds, and 12 assists. The team’s 5-0 start was one of the best in its history, matching the 1995-96 team and only behind the 1996-97 team led by Michael Jordan, which started the season with 12 straight wins.
🐴 Spurs Suffer First Loss in Phoenix
The San Antonio Spurs also experienced their first loss of the season, falling 130-118 to the Phoenix Suns. It was a tough night for rookie star Victor Wembanyama, who struggled with foul trouble early in the game and could not find his rhythm. He finished with nine points, nine rebounds, and four blocked shots. Although the winning streak is over, the Spurs’ 5-0 start was the best in the team’s entire history, marking a promising beginning to their season.
