The Paycom Center was buzzing with excitement as the Oklahoma City Thunder celebrated their first NBA championship with a special ceremony before their season opener against the Rockets. Players, coaches, and staff received their championship rings, and the night ended with the team’s first title banner being raised to the rafters.
🎉 A Night of Celebration
The evening began with NBA Commissioner Adam Silver addressing the cheering crowd. Team chairman Clay Bennett and president Sam Presti then presented the rings to each player one by one. The biggest applause was saved for last season’s MVP, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who was greeted with “M-V-P” chants as he received his ring and did a little dance for the fans.
🥇 The Road to Victory
This ceremony celebrated the Thunder’s incredible journey last season. They finished with an impressive 68-14 record, giving them the best home-court advantage throughout the playoffs. The team’s hard work paid off when they defeated the Pacers in the NBA Finals to secure the franchise’s first championship since moving to Oklahoma City in 2008.
✨ Details of the Championship Ring
The championship rings are truly a work of art. Made with 14-karat gold and over 800 hand-set gemstones, they feature the “OKC” logo in diamonds over the team shield. The design also includes 46 blue sapphires and a unique “ring within a ring” feature, allowing players to wear a smaller, more personal band. A special tribute to the Oklahoma City National Memorial is also included on the side, making it a meaningful keepsake.
🏀 Raising the Banner
After all the rings were presented, the final moment of celebration arrived. The 2024-25 NBA Championship banner was slowly raised to the ceiling of the arena, marking a historic moment for the team and its fans. With the celebration complete, the Thunder officially began their title defense against the Houston Rockets.
