Lawrence Moten was a star guard for Syracuse University in the early 1990s. He was later drafted by the Vancouver Grizzlies in 1995, becoming one of the team’s first-ever players and spending three seasons in the NBA. At Syracuse, Moten’s scoring ability was exceptional. Nicknamed “Poetry in Moten,” he set a school record with 2,334 career points—a milestone that still stands today. His incredible talent helped lead his team to three NCAA Tournament appearances, and in recognition of his contributions, the university retired his No. 21 jersey in 2018.
