NBA Fantasy: Young Stars Poised for Breakout 2025-26 Season

Discover which young NBA talents, sidelined by injuries last season, are set to dominate your fantasy leagues in 2025-26 with career-best performances.
NBA Fantasy: Young Stars Poised for Breakout 2025-26 Season

✨ The upcoming 2025-26 NBA season promises excitement, especially for fantasy basketball enthusiasts looking for players ready to make a big comeback. While established stars like Joel Embiid, Kawhi Leonard, and Zion Williamson are always a factor, their past injury struggles can make them risky picks. This article focuses on a different group: promising young players who faced injuries last season but are now primed not only for a bounce-back year but potentially a career-defining campaign. These are the talents who, with renewed health and improved team situations, could become fantasy league game-changers.

🏀 LaMelo Ball: High Upside, New Support

LaMelo Ball, the dynamic All-Star point guard for the Hornets, has only played more than 51 games once in his career, raising concerns about his durability. Despite this, his potential remains incredibly high, making him a worthwhile risk for fantasy managers. He’s often compared to Williamson in terms of injury history, but Ball’s unique “top-five upside” sets him apart. He’s also never played on a team truly built for consistent success, unlike the Pelicans who made the playoffs twice despite Williamson’s missed games. After spending the summer recovering from wrist and ankle surgeries, Ball is expected to be fully healthy for training camp. With an improved supporting cast around him, the stage is set for Ball to have a phenomenal 2025-26 season.

🚀 Jalen Johnson: Untapped Potential Unleashed

Jalen Johnson of the Hawks has also battled injuries throughout his career, even dating back to his college days at Duke. However, similar to LaMelo Ball and unlike some of the older, injury-prone veterans, Johnson has yet to reach his full potential. He just needs one healthy season to truly break out. Before a torn labrum ended his 2024-25 campaign, Johnson showed incredible versatility, averaging 18.9 points, 10.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists, 1.5 steals, 1.0 blocks, and 1.2 three-pointers, with solid shooting splits of 50% from the field, 31% from three, and 75% from the free-throw line. If he can stay on the court, his ability to contribute in almost every statistical category makes him a potential top-20 fantasy option for the next decade.

🌟 Paolo Banchero: Magic’s Leader, Efficiency Boost

Paolo Banchero, the star forward for the Magic, enjoyed two healthy seasons to start his NBA career, but last season saw him and his team hit with the injury bug. While he has steadily improved his overall stats since his rookie year, his shooting efficiency, at 45% from the field, 32% from three, and 73% from the free-throw line last season, still has room to grow. The Magic made smart moves this offseason, adding floor spacers like draft pick Jase Richardson and trade acquisition Desmond Bane. These additions should create more space for Banchero to operate and drive, potentially boosting his efficiency. With the Eastern Conference seeing some key injuries to rivals, the Magic are expected to rise, and Banchero’s performance will be crucial, potentially even pushing him into the MVP conversation.

💪 Group of Four: Maxey, Suggs, Ivey, Miller

This group of talented young guards and wings – Tyrese Maxey (76ers), Jalen Suggs (Magic), Jaden Ivey (Pistons), and Brandon Miller (Hornets) – share several similarities. All four have shown flashes of stardom, were sidelined by injuries for much of last season, and will return to teams that have seen significant roster changes. If they perform well, they could re-establish themselves as key players and potentially reach their fantasy peak. However, the pressure is on. Maxey faces competition from Jared McCain, Quentin Grimes, and VJ Edgecombe. Ivey will contend with Caris LeVert and Duncan Robinson. Miller will share usage with newcomers Kon Knueppel, Collin Sexton, and Spencer Dinwiddie. Suggs finds himself fourth in the offensive pecking order behind Desmond Bane, Franz Wagner, and Banchero, with Jase Richardson and Tyus Jones also vying for minutes. Despite these challenges and their injury histories, there are enough positive signs for these four to be strong candidates for massive bounce-back campaigns in 2025-26.

🏆 Honorable Mention: Anfernee Simons

Anfernee Simons of the Celtics also deserves a mention as a player who could make a significant impact in the upcoming season. Keep an eye on his potential to exceed expectations.
