The NBA has announced an exciting change for its annual All-Star Game. Starting in 2026, the event will feature a new tournament format pitting top American players against the best talent from around the world. This fresh take on the mid-season showcase will take place on Sunday, February 15, at the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, California, home of the LA Clippers.
🏆 How the New Tournament Works
Instead of the traditional single-game format, the 2026 All-Star event will be a three-team, round-robin tournament. There will be two teams composed of U.S. players and one team of international players, known as the “World” team. Each team will have a minimum of eight players. The competition will consist of four fast-paced, 12-minute games to determine the ultimate winner.
⭐ Selecting the All-Stars
The process of choosing the 24 All-Stars will remain familiar to fans. Starters will be selected through a combination of votes from fans (50%), current NBA players (25%), and a media panel (25%). The seven reserves from each conference will be chosen by NBA head coaches. One key update is that players will now be selected without being tied to a specific position, allowing for more flexibility in creating the most deserving rosters.
🌍 A Fresh Chapter for the All-Star Game
This new “U.S. vs. World” format is set to bring a new level of excitement and national pride to the All-Star Game. It creates a compelling storyline by showcasing the incredible depth of American basketball talent while also celebrating the growing number of international superstars in the league. The NBA has yet to announce how the selected U.S. players will be divided into two separate teams, adding another layer of anticipation for fans.
