The Utah Jazz will be wearing a special tribute on their jerseys throughout the 2025-26 season to honor Frank Layden, one of the most important figures in the team’s history. This gesture celebrates his lasting impact on the organization following his passing on July 9 at the age of 93.
👕 A Special Tribute on the Court
To commemorate Layden, the team will wear a patch with the name “FRANK” on the left side of their jerseys. In addition, both players and coaches will sport a circular patch with the number “1” on their warm-up gear, a simple yet powerful nod to his legacy.
🌟 Remembering a Club Legend
Frank Layden was a key figure for the Jazz. He served in multiple roles, including head coach, general manager, and president, helping to build the team’s foundation and culture. His contributions are a significant part of the franchise’s story and are remembered fondly by the community.
1️⃣ The Significance of Number 1
The number “1” holds a special place in Jazz history because of Layden. The team retired the No. 1 jersey in 1989 to honor him, making him the first person in the organization who was not a player to receive such a tribute. The warm-up patch is a direct reference to this unique honor.
🗓️ When the Tribute Begins
Fans will first see the new patches during the preseason game against the Houston Rockets on October 8. This season-long tribute ensures that Layden’s memory and influence will be present with the team every time they step onto the court.
