Every time a star player like Trae Young or Nikola Jokić makes an amazing pass, it’s more than just a highlight for the fans. For the past ten years, each of these on-court assists has also created a positive impact for communities. Through the NBA Cares State Farm Assist Tracker program, every single assist during the NBA season means a donation to a good cause.
This partnership turns exciting basketball moments into real support for young people. For every assist made—and there were 65,312 in the 2024-25 season—the NBA and State Farm donate $5 to help students. This money is used to create better learning environments, focusing on science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM), as well as spaces that support mental and physical wellness. Since 2015, this initiative has raised an impressive $4.4 million for youth and families across the United States.
🏫 Building a Better Future in Schools
The program has funded incredible new facilities for students. In Chicago, for instance, a new STEM lab was built at Chalmers Steam Elementary, complete with modern technology like smartboards and interactive TVs. Chicago Bulls guard Ayo Dosunmu was there to celebrate the opening and spend time with the kids. During the 2025 NBA All-Star Game, volunteers also helped refurbish an elementary school in Oakland, showing the program’s commitment to making a lasting difference.
✨ Spreading Support During Key Events
The spirit of giving continues throughout the year at major NBA events. During the 2025 NBA Draft, a newly renovated STEM lab was unveiled for students in New York. Later, at the Summer League in Las Vegas, another STEM lab was opened at a local academy, featuring new laptops, a 3D printer, and modern furniture. New York Knicks guard Miles McBride and NBA Legend Mitch Richmond attended the event to show their support and inspire the students.
🏀 The WNBA’s Growing Contribution
The WNBA has also joined this wonderful cause for the third consecutive season. In partnership with State Farm, they are turning assists into community support. They dedicated a special wellness room for students at a school in New York City to provide a calming space for them. Additionally, during the WNBA All-Star 2025 in Indiana, WNBA legend Tamika Catchings and LA Sparks forward Rickea Jackson hosted a fun day for 250 young girls, with activities like yoga and painting to promote both mental and physical health.
