John Ukomadu’s journey wasn’t a straight line to professional basketball. After his college career, he wasn’t a top prospect on any draft boards. However, his determination led him to the Motor City Cruise’s local tryouts in 2024. He saw the $250 registration fee as an investment in his future. “I knew what I wanted out of basketball,” Ukomadu said. “I felt like… I’m going to end up making it back in my career, so why not take the chance now?” The bet paid off. During his first season with the Cruise, he averaged 9.6 points and shot an impressive 46.2 percent from three-point range, proving he belonged at the professional level.
