The EuroBasket 2025 quarterfinals delivered plenty of excitement, with Germany staging a late comeback to defeat Slovenia, even with Luka Dončić scoring an incredible 39 points. In the other match, Finland made history by beating Georgia to reach the semifinals for the very first time.
The day’s games highlighted the power of teamwork. Germany’s balanced scoring and crucial plays from multiple players overcame Slovenia’s reliance on their superstar. Similarly, Finland’s deep bench proved decisive against a resilient Georgian team, showcasing that a full team effort is key to winning big games.
🇩🇪 Germany’s Team Effort Overcomes Dončić’s Brilliance
Germany fought hard to secure their spot in the semifinals against Slovenia. Orlando Magic’s Franz Wagner led the team with 23 points, while captain Dennis Schröder added 20 points and 7 assists. The turning point came in the fourth quarter when Germany went on a 12-0 scoring run. With the game on the line, Schröder hit a crucial three-pointer, his only one of the game, to give Germany a lead they wouldn’t lose.
🔥 Dončić Shines Bright in Defeat
Despite the loss, Luka Dončić put on a spectacular show for Slovenia. The Lakers star scored 39 points, grabbed 10 rebounds, and had 7 assists. He was on fire from the start, scoring 22 points by halftime. However, he ran into foul trouble early in the third quarter, which seemed to limit him slightly. It was his fifth game in the tournament scoring 30 or more points, but it wasn’t enough to carry his team to victory.
🇫🇮 Finland Makes History with Strong Team Play
Finland celebrated a major milestone by reaching their first-ever EuroBasket semifinal after holding off Georgia. Their victory was a true team effort, led by Mikael Jantunen’s 19 points and Lauri Markkanen’s 17 points. A key factor was their bench players, who contributed 44 points compared to just four from Georgia’s bench. This depth allowed Finland to build a big lead and withstand Georgia’s late comeback.
🇬🇪 Georgia’s Impressive Run Comes to an End
Although they lost, Georgia can be proud of their performance. They fought back from a 20-point deficit in the third quarter to make the game close. Led by Sandro Mamukelashvili’s 22 points, they showed great spirit. This was Georgia’s first time in the quarterfinals, and they had a memorable tournament, earning big wins against teams like France and Spain on their journey.
