After six years away, Chris Paul is officially back with the LA Clippers. The veteran point guard was emotional during his reintroduction, calling the return “wild” and “crazy.” Seeing his name on the scoreboard and his No. 3 jersey in the locker room of the new Intuit Dome made it clear that he was finally back where he wanted to be.
Paul’s return is a significant move for both him and the team. He gets to be closer to his family, who remained in Los Angeles, while the Clippers add a highly experienced leader to their roster. He will play a key role off the bench, supporting stars Kawhi Leonard and James Harden as the team pursues its first-ever NBA championship.
🏡 A Heartfelt Homecoming
The move is especially meaningful for Paul on a personal level. His family, including his wife Jada and children Chris Jr. and Camryn, continued to live in L.A. after he left the Clippers six years ago. He expressed how much he loves playing basketball but loves his family even more. Now, he’s making up for lost time, spending quality moments with them and joyfully telling them, “I’m home, I’m home.”
🏆 The Quest for a Title
On the court, Paul has a clear goal: to win an NBA championship. He has accepted a role coming off the bench to support the team’s main stars, Kawhi Leonard and James Harden. Paul’s leadership and experience are seen as valuable assets that could help the Clippers finally achieve their championship dream. He even toured the team’s new arena last summer, hoping that he might one day get the chance to play there.
🤝 Unfinished Business with Harden
This move also reunites Paul with James Harden. The two were teammates on the Houston Rockets in 2017, where they had a successful run but fell short of their ultimate goal. Paul mentioned that they have “unfinished business,” suggesting they are both motivated to see what they can achieve together this time around with the Clippers.
🗺️ A Journey Back to L.A.
Paul’s return to the Clippers comes after a long journey playing for several different teams. Since leaving in 2017, he has played for the Houston Rockets, Oklahoma City Thunder, Phoenix Suns, Golden State Warriors, and most recently, the San Antonio Spurs. This long road has now brought him back full circle to Los Angeles, a place he considers home.
