Dallas Mavericks star Anthony Davis has confirmed that he will wear protective goggles for the rest of his basketball career. This decision comes after he had surgery during the offseason to repair a detached retina in his right eye. Davis, who has now fully recovered, is taking his doctor’s advice to protect his vision on the court. He even joked about it, referencing another famous goggle-wearing player: “You guys will see me in the Horace Grants.”
🤕 An Unexpected Injury
The eye injury is believed to have happened during a game against the Hawks on April 2, when teammate Daniel Gafford accidentally hit him in the face with an elbow. At the time, Davis left the game for stitches and later returned to play. However, he only discovered the more serious damage to his retina during a routine eye check-up in the summer, which led to the need for surgery.
💪 Road to Recovery
Davis spent a large part of his summer focused on recovering from the eye operation. His hard work has paid off, as he recently started playing in 5-on-5 games with his team and is expected to be a full participant when training camp begins. His right eye still appeared red during a recent press conference, which he explained was due to the eye drops recommended by his doctors.
🏆 A New Look and High Hopes
After being traded to the Mavericks last February in the deal involving Luka Dončić and the Lakers, Davis only played nine games before an injury sidelined him for several weeks. Now, he is looking forward to a healthier season. He shared his excitement about being with the team and stressed that staying healthy is key to their goal of winning a championship. “I think we have a good ball club,” Davis said. “I want to win here.”
