Former NBA forward JT Thor is taking his talents to Europe, signing with the Italian team UNA Hotels Reggio Emilia. The 23-year-old, who recently played for South Sudan in the 2024 Paris Olympics, brings four years of professional experience to his new club.
✈️ A Fresh Start in Europe
Thor expressed his excitement about the move, which marks his first time playing professionally overseas after his NBA career. “I’m thrilled to start a new chapter in Europe and can’t wait to join the Reggio Emilia family,” he said. The move represents a significant step for the young power forward as he adapts to a new style of basketball.
💪 What Thor Brings to the Team
Coach Dimitris Priftis highlighted Thor’s strengths, describing him as an “athletic, vertical player with great footwork and quickness.” He was signed to strengthen the team’s frontcourt, especially with Kwan Cheatham Jr. currently injured. The coach expects Thor to be a strong defender and rebounder who can also shoot from outside, but noted he will need some time to get used to European basketball.
🏀 A Look Back at His NBA Journey
Thor has played in 185 NBA games since being drafted in 2021. He spent three seasons with the Charlotte Hornets and also had short stints with the Cleveland Cavaliers and Washington Wizards. During his time in the NBA, he averaged 3.2 points and 2.1 rebounds per game, gaining valuable experience at the highest level of the sport.
🎯 Joining a Team in Need
Thor joins Reggio Emilia at a key point in their season. The team currently holds a 2-2 record in their FIBA Europe Cup group and a 2-5 record in Italy’s top basketball league. His addition is expected to provide a much-needed boost as the team looks to improve its performance in both domestic and international competitions.
