Playing in front of their home fans at Kilamba Arena, Angola remained undefeated throughout the entire tournament, showcasing a dominant performance from start to finish. This victory marks Angola’s first AfroBasket title since 2013, re-establishing their status as a powerhouse in African basketball. Their flawless 6-0 record highlights a well-coached and cohesive team effort, culminating in a historic achievement for the nation.

Angola’s national basketball team delivered an unforgettable performance in the AfroBasket 2025 final, overwhelming Mali with a decisive 70-43 score. From the opening tip-off, the team, guided by Spanish coach Josep Claros, took control of the game and never looked back. This stellar showing in front of their enthusiastic home crowd at Kilamba Arena capped off an incredible tournament where Angola was the only team to remain undefeated across all six games.

Leading Angola’s charge was the outstanding 27-year-old point guard, Childe Dundao, who earned the Most Valuable Player award for his incredible contributions. Despite being the shortest player in the tournament at 1.67 meters, Dundao averaged an impressive 15.7 points, 5.8 assists, 2.3 rebounds, and 2.8 steals per game. In the final match, he was equally impactful, contributing 16 points, five assists, four rebounds, and three steals to seal the championship.

Dundao was joined in the All-Star Team by his Angolan teammate, Bruno Fernando, who also plays for Real Madrid at the club level. Mali’s Mahamane Coulibaly and Aliou Diarra, along with Senegal’s Brancou Badio, completed the prestigious All-Tournament lineup. Angola’s road to the championship was paved with convincing wins, as they topped Group C by defeating Libya, Guinea, and South Sudan. They then overcame Cape Verde in the Quarterfinals and Cameroon in the Semifinals, setting the stage for their triumphant final.

🏅 Mali’s Best Finish and Senegal’s Consistent Podium Spot

For Mali, achieving second place marks their best-ever finish in AfroBasket history, a significant improvement from their 1972 bronze medal. Their journey to the final showcased remarkable progress for the team. In the third-place match held earlier on Sunday, Senegal secured the bronze medal by defeating Cameroon 98-72. This achievement marks Senegal’s third consecutive time finishing third in the AfroBasket tournament, highlighting their consistent performance on the continental stage.
