After two years with limited playing time in the NBA, Serbian star Vasilije Micic has made a strong return to the EuroLeague. Now playing a key role for Hapoel Tel Aviv, the 31-year-old guard is leading his new team to the top of the standings and looks happier than ever on the court.
The main reason for his successful comeback is the trust and responsibility given to him by Hapoel Tel Aviv. Unlike his time in the NBA with teams like the Thunder, Hornets, and Suns where his role was often small, Micic is now a central part of his team’s strategy. This has allowed him to play with freedom, showcase his skills, and rediscover his love for the game.
✨ Back in the Spotlight
Vasilije Micic is making a big impact with Hapoel Tel Aviv, helping the team achieve an impressive 6-1 start to the season. He has been playing exceptionally well, averaging 15.6 points, 3.9 assists, and 2.0 rebounds in about 25 minutes per game. Micic credits the team’s success to their positive attitude and desire to support each other. “The most important thing here is that there is enthusiasm, a desire to quickly adapt to roles, to get the best out of each other,” he explained.
😊 Enjoying Basketball Again
Micic is clearly happy to be back in an environment where he feels valued. He shared that his new team wanted him from the beginning and immediately gave him an important role. “I was given a role. I didn’t have to fight for it, which makes it easier for me to get into the rhythm,” he said. This change has been refreshing for him after a mentally challenging period. “I am enjoying basketball again,” Micic added. “I love playing. I’m the type of player who has to play, to have minutes.”
🎯 A Professional Mindset
Even when he isn’t at his best, Micic finds ways to help his team win. In a recent victory over Partizan, he felt he didn’t play well but still managed to contribute with 10 points, four assists, and three steals. “I do not know how, but I had a good performance when it was necessary, and most importantly, we won,” he noted. This shows his experience and focus on team success over personal stats. He explained that by focusing on his own work, he has been able to adapt to his new surroundings and meet expectations.
🇷🇸 Supporting the National Team
Beyond his club duties, Micic also spoke about the Serbian national team. He expressed his full support for the new head coach, Dusan Alimpijevic, calling his appointment a “wonderful selection.” Micic hopes to join the team for the upcoming FIBA World Cup 2027 Qualifiers. “I hope we will all have the opportunity and time to participate in the windows and fight for the next goals,” he said, showing his continued commitment to representing his country.
