Stefan Jovic Makes a Comeback with Bayern Munich

Serbian playmaker Stefan Jovic is making a welcome return to FC Bayern Munich. The 34-year-old veteran has signed with the German club, a team he previously played for, stepping in to fill a gap left by an injury to teammate Rokas Jokubaitis.

This move is seen as a smart decision for Bayern, bringing in a reliable and experienced player who knows the club well. Jovic’s familiarity with the EuroLeague and his recent solid performance at EuroBasket 2025 make him an ideal choice to provide stability and leadership to the team’s backcourt.

🏀 A Timely Return

FC Bayern Munich needed to act fast after Rokas Jokubaitis suffered a serious injury. The club found a perfect solution in Stefan Jovic, who was a free agent. Sporting director Dragan Tarlac expressed his happiness with the signing, stating, “We are very happy to have been able to bring in Stefan, an experienced and well-known playmaking point guard who, in our opinion, fits perfectly into our system. He knows Munich and the EuroLeague very well.” Tarlac also noted that Jovic’s performance at the recent EuroBasket showed he is in great shape.

😊 A Happy Reunion

For Jovic, the decision to rejoin Bayern was an easy one. “When I heard about Bayern’s interest over the weekend, the decision was immediately clear for me,” he said. He recalled the successful and happy times he and his family had in Munich during his first stint with the team from 2017 to 2019. Now back with the club, Jovic is ready to contribute in any way he can. He has already spoken with coach Gordon Herbert and emphasized his commitment to playing strong defense and helping the team control the game.

🏆 A Career of Success

Jovic brings a wealth of experience from his long and successful career. Before his first run with Bayern, he won multiple titles with Red Star Belgrade in Serbia. His leadership was key to Bayern winning the German championship and cup in 2018, and defending the title in 2019. Since then, he has played for clubs in Moscow and Spain, most recently with Valencia. Jovic has also been a key player for the Serbian national team for over a decade, winning silver medals at the Olympics and two World Cups. At Bayern, he will be reunited with his fellow countryman and former teammate, captain Vladimir Lucic.
