Crvena Zvezda has officially welcomed back Saša Obradović as its new head coach, following the departure of Ioannis Sfairopoulos. This change comes after a challenging start to the 2025/26 season, but the team recently secured a morale-boosting win against Fenerbahçe under an assistant coach, signaling a potential turnaround.
The decision to bring in a new coach was made after the team suffered three consecutive losses to begin their season. Obradović, a well-respected figure at the club, has been appointed to provide fresh leadership and guide the team back to winning ways in both the EuroLeague and the ABA League.
🏠 A Familiar Face Returns
Saša Obradović is no stranger to Crvena Zvezda. He previously coached the team during the 2020/21 season and also had a memorable playing career with the club, wearing its jersey across three different periods. His deep connection to the team and its history makes his return a significant one for both the players and the fans. Before this, he had a successful coaching stint with AS Monaco, where he achieved several historic milestones.
🌱 A Fresh Start for the Team
The coaching change follows the departure of Ioannis Sfairopoulos. After he left, assistant coach Tomislav Tomović stepped in temporarily and led the team to an important victory over Fenerbahçe in Istanbul. This win has provided a positive spark as the team transitions to its new leadership. The team hopes that Obradović’s arrival will build on this momentum and bring stability.
👀 Looking Ahead
Obradović is set to begin his work immediately, with his first practice scheduled for Sunday. Fans will get to see him lead the team for the first time on Tuesday, when Crvena Zvezda faces Žalgiris Kaunas at home in the Belgrade Arena. The team currently holds a 1–2 record in the EuroLeague and a 0–1 record in the ABA League, and everyone will be watching to see how they perform under their new coach.
