After finishing their preseason games at the Crete International Basketball Tournament, Greek club Olympiacos is turning its full attention to the upcoming season. Head coach Giorgos Bartzokas has made it clear that the team’s most urgent task is to sign a new guard to strengthen their roster.
The search for a new player comes as Olympiacos faces a packed schedule right from the start. With key guard Keenan Evans currently injured, the team needs more depth to handle the pressure of both domestic and European competitions. The coaching staff is now carefully reviewing the available players to find the right fit.
🔍 The Hunt for a New Guard
Coach Bartzokas emphasized the urgency of the situation, stating, “We need a guard immediately and we are working towards this direction.” He also joked about the many players being linked to the team, showing that the club is a desirable destination. However, he acknowledged that finding the right player at this time is challenging, but necessary to stick to the team’s initial plans for the season.
🤔 Koumadje’s Future on Hold
The focus on finding a guard means that another roster decision has been put on hold. Center Khalifa Koumadje, who was with the team on a preseason contract, is waiting to find out if he will be offered a permanent spot. Bartzokas explained that the team hasn’t had time to review his case, as all efforts are currently dedicated to the guard search. A final decision on Koumadje will be made later.
🗓️ A Busy Season Kick-off
Olympiacos is preparing for a demanding start to their season. They will first compete in the Greek Super Cup before kicking off their EuroLeague campaign with tough away games against Baskonia and Real Madrid. Shortly after, their domestic league schedule begins. This tough stretch of games highlights why the team is eager to finalize its roster as soon as possible.
