NBA Star Josh Giddey Trains with Panathinaikos

Chicago Bulls guard Josh Giddey made a surprise appearance in his hometown of Melbourne, joining the Greek basketball champions Panathinaikos for a team practice. The 22-year-old Australian NBA star was seen wearing the team’s green jersey and working out with players like Kendrick Nunn and Jerian Grant, creating a unique moment for fans and local schoolchildren who came to watch.

The practice session was a great opportunity for both sides. Giddey, who trains in Melbourne during the offseason, heard the EuroLeague team was in town and saw a chance to get some high-level practice. For Panathinaikos, which was preparing for an upcoming tournament, Giddey’s participation helped energize the session and provided an extra player to run drills.

🏀 A Unique Training Session

Giddey explained that he trains at the facility every day and wanted to help the team get ready for their upcoming match. “I thought it was a good chance to get into rhythm as well,” he said. “They’re a very good team, respected all over Europe.” The event was a special treat for dozens of local schoolchildren, who cheered for the players and got to take photos with Giddey and the Panathinaikos team members.

🤝 Connecting with Former NBA Players

During the practice, Giddey had the chance to chat with Panathinaikos players and former NBA guards, Kendrick Nunn and Jerian Grant. He shared that they spoke very positively about their experience with the team and living in Greece. “They had only good things to say about the team, the city, and Greece in general,” Giddey noted. “It was fun to be with them today.”

🤔 Future in the EuroLeague?

When asked about the possibility of playing in the EuroLeague one day, Giddey remained open-minded. While his focus is on the NBA, the positive feedback from Nunn and Grant left an impression. “I don’t know… maybe someday. You never say never,” he commented. “I haven’t heard anything but positive things. So, maybe at some point in the future.”
