Panathinaikos captain Kostas Sloukas isn’t hanging up his sneakers just yet. The veteran guard has agreed to a one-year contract extension, keeping him with the team until the end of the 2026-27 season. This news comes after a successful meeting with the team’s owner, Dimitris Giannakopoulos, ensuring the team’s leader will stay on board for another year.
The extension is a significant move, providing stability and leadership for the Greek club as they continue to compete at the highest level in Europe.
✍️ A New Deal for the Captain
At 35, Sloukas had been thinking about retirement, but this new agreement puts those plans on hold. He was in the final year of a three-year contract he signed in 2023 after moving from rivals Olympiacos. The extension shows the club’s strong belief in his leadership and experience as they look to build on their recent success.
🏆 A Career Full of Wins
Sloukas has had an incredible career. He is a four-time EuroLeague champion, winning the title with three different clubs: Panathinaikos, Fenerbahce, and Olympiacos. His most recent victory came in 2024 with Panathinaikos, where he was also named the Final Four Most Valuable Player, proving he is still one of the best players in Europe.
🏀 Still a Key Player for the Team
Even in his 16th EuroLeague season, Sloukas continues to be a vital contributor. This season, he’s averaging 8.1 points and 5.0 assists per game in the EuroLeague, helping his team to a solid 5-3 start. His performance in the Greek domestic league is also strong, showing his value both on and off the court. His international career with Greece is also noteworthy, highlighted by a bronze medal at the EuroBasket 2025.
