French guard Frank Ntilikina is officially heading to Olympiacos after the Greek club reached an agreement with Partizan. The transfer, which had its share of ups and downs during negotiations, is now complete, with the 27-year-old signing a two-year contract to join the EuroLeague team.
🤝 A Deal is Done
The path to this transfer was not straightforward. Initial talks seemed promising, but the deal nearly fell apart over the buyout fee. Partizan was reportedly seeking compensation to release Ntilikina from his contract. However, after further discussions, both clubs managed to find a solution that allowed the move to go forward, with Olympiacos officially announcing their new player.
🏀 Filling a Key Need
For Olympiacos, this signing provides much-needed strength in their backcourt. The team was keen to add another guard, especially with Keenan Evans currently unavailable due to injury. Ntilikina is expected to play a significant role and will be teaming up with his French national teammate, Evan Fournier. This existing connection should help him adapt quickly to his new environment under coach Giorgos Bartzokas.
📈 A Fresh Start and Proven Talent
This move also marks a new chapter for Ntilikina. Partizan was looking to find a new team for the player to manage their budget for the upcoming season. Ntilikina brings a wealth of experience, having spent several years in the NBA with the Knicks, Mavericks, and Hornets after being the eighth pick in the 2017 draft. Last season with Partizan, he averaged 7.0 points and 2.0 assists in the EuroLeague. He has also been highly successful internationally, winning two Olympic silver medals with France.
