With the new basketball season approaching, Euroleague’s top officials gathered in Thessaloniki, Greece, for their 26th annual pre-season clinic. The four-day event brought together 70 referees and 15 referee coaches to align on rules and standards, ensuring they are fully prepared for the exciting games ahead.

The clinic welcomed everyone from seasoned veterans to fresh faces, including five new referees joining the league this year. The event also saw Carmelo Paternico, who recently retired as a referee, return as a coach to share his valuable experience. This mix of new talent and expert knowledge helps keep officiating at the highest level. The meeting was attended by key figures like Euroleague Basketball President Dejan Bodiroga and renowned coaches Ettore Messina and Dimitris Itoudis.

Under the guidance of Director of Officiating Daniel Hierrezuelo, the officials spent their time reviewing the latest rule interpretations and technical procedures. The training was comprehensive, covering everything from physical fitness tests and integrity workshops to detailed video analysis of specific on-court situations. They held special sessions to discuss challenging calls like travelling, illegal contact, setting screens, and spotting when players fake fouls.
