
EuroLeague Basketball has issued fines to two major clubs, Crvena Zvezda and Olympiacos, due to inappropriate conduct from their fans during recent Round 9 matches. The penalties were announced as part of the league’s regular disciplinary updates.
This action highlights the EuroLeague’s commitment to maintaining a respectful and positive atmosphere at all its games. By penalizing clubs for offensive fan behavior, the league reinforces its rules against unsportsmanlike conduct to ensure everyone can enjoy the sport.
📣 Fans’ Chants Lead to Fines
Crvena Zvezda Meridianbet received a fine of €7,000 after its supporters used offensive chants during a home game against Panathinaikos Aktor Athens. Similarly, Olympiacos Piraeus was fined €6,000 for the same reason during their match against Partizan Mozzart Bet Belgrade. Both penalties were issued under Article 29.2.f) of the Euroleague Basketball Disciplinary Code, which addresses inappropriate fan behavior.
🏀 A Look at the Teams’ Performance
Despite the fines, both teams are performing strongly this season. Crvena Zvezda recently secured a win against AS Monaco, placing them in a tie for first place in the EuroLeague standings with an 8-3 record. Olympiacos, holding a 7-3 record, also has a chance to catch up to the leaders. In their home leagues, Olympiacos remains undefeated at the top of the Greek GBL, while Crvena Zvezda is fourth in their group in the ABA League.
⚖️ Coach Penalized in EuroCup
In separate news from the BKT EuroCup, Mihai Silvasan, the head coach of U-BT Cluj-Napoca, was fined €3,000. The penalty was for actions showing a lack of respect towards the referees during a Round 6 game against Cedevita Olimpija Ljubljana. His team currently sits fourth in their group with a 4-3 record.
