Cedi Osman to Miss Panathinaikos' EuroLeague Opener

Panathinaikos is set to begin their 2025-26 EuroLeague journey, but they will have to do so without one of their key players. Forward Cedi Osman has been ruled out of their opening match at home against FC Bayern Munich.

Osman’s absence is a significant setback for the team, especially as they kick off a new season. His availability for the second game against FC Barcelona also remains uncertain, forcing the team to adjust its strategy right from the start. Both Panathinaikos and their opponent Bayern are dealing with several injuries, setting the stage for a challenging opening week.

🤕 Update on Osman’s Recovery

Cedi Osman is currently limited to individual training as he recovers from an injury he picked up while playing for the Turkish national team during EuroBasket 2025. While head coach Ergin Ataman had been hopeful for his return in the opening week, it now seems Osman may miss both the first and second games of the season.

🏀 A Vital Part of the Team

After a long career in the NBA from 2017 to 2024 with the Cleveland Cavaliers and San Antonio Spurs, the experienced forward joined Panathinaikos and quickly became a crucial part of the team. He showed his commitment to the Greek club by signing a contract extension last April that will keep him with them until the end of the 2026-27 season.

💪 Team Adjustments and Other Absences

Panathinaikos is already missing center Mathias Lessort, who is expected to be out for several more weeks. On a positive note, T.J. Shorts II has recovered from an illness and is available. Their opponents, Bayern, are also facing their own injury problems, with Rokas Jokubaitis, Johannes Voigtmann, and Elias Harris all sidelined. Coach Ataman stressed the importance of mental readiness, saying, “The official games are starting and we must be ready.”
