Ukrainian center Alex Len is starting a new chapter in his basketball career. After 12 years and over 700 games in the NBA, the 32-year-old is moving to Europe to play for the famous Spanish club, Real Madrid.
This move brings a highly experienced player to Real Madrid, boosting their defense and size. For Len, it is a fresh start in Europe’s top basketball competition, the EuroLeague, where he hopes to help his new team win championships.
🤝 A Great Honor to Join
“It means everything,” Len said about joining Real Madrid. He called it a great honor to be part of a club with such a rich history. “Anyone would love to be part of Real Madrid,” he added, expressing his excitement to wear the team’s jersey. He mentioned that he has been following the club for a long time and feels honored to join something so special.
🎯 Bringing Toughness and Defense
Len is clear about his goals: to help the team win as many games and championships as possible, including the Spanish ACB league and the EuroLeague. He described himself as a player who brings a strong defensive presence, toughness, and a willingness to do whatever the coach asks. “I just want to help the team win games, that’s the most important thing,” he stated.
🏀 A New Challenge After the NBA
Len was the fifth overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft and has played against the world’s best players for over a decade with teams like the Suns and Kings. He believes this valuable experience will help his new team. He sees the move as a new beginning and is looking forward to the challenge of competing in the ACB and EuroLeague, which he respects as highly competitive leagues outside the NBA.
👍 A Warm Welcome
A conversation with former Sacramento Kings teammate Trey Lyles, who also plays for Real Madrid, helped him make his decision. Len said Lyles told him “only good things” about the club. Head coach Sergio Scariolo also welcomed the new addition, calling Len “a very intelligent player” who provides much-needed depth to the team’s roster.
