To boost its performance in the BKT EuroCup, Greek team Panionios has signed two new players for the rest of the 2024–25 season: American guard Keron DeShields and Greek center Kostas Gontikas. Both players bring a valuable mix of international and local experience to the team.
These new signings are expected to give Panionios more depth and skill as they compete in the tough EuroCup. The addition of an experienced guard and a solid center addresses key areas for the team, helping them match up better against their opponents.
🌍 A Well-Traveled Guard Joins the Team
Keron DeShields, a 32-year-old guard, brings a great deal of global experience. He has played professional basketball in many countries, including Italy, Hungary, Israel, and several others across South America and the Middle East. He has also played in Greece before and recently put up impressive numbers for the Syrian national team at the 2025 FIBA Asia Cup, averaging 22 points, 7 rebounds, and 5.3 assists. This will be his first time playing in the EuroCup.
🇬🇷 Experienced Greek Center Adds Strength
Kostas Gontikas, a 31-year-old center, is very familiar with Greek basketball. He has played for several top clubs in Greece, such as Panathinaikos and AEK Athens. He also has international experience from playing in Romania and Iceland, where he recently averaged 14 points and 5.6 rebounds per game. His knowledge of the local league and his skills in the paint will be a great asset.
🚀 Ready for Action
Both Keron DeShields and Kostas Gontikas have already joined the team and started training with coach Ilias Zouros’s squad. They are expected to be ready to play in the upcoming EuroCup game against Turk Telekom in Ankara, giving the team an immediate boost.
