Greek basketball club Panionios is actively searching for a new head coach, with Serbian expert Aleksandar Dzikic emerging as the top candidate. This development comes after their initial plan to hire Italian coach Gianmarco Pozzecco did not work out. The team is looking for a new leader to guide them in the BKT EuroCup and the Greek domestic league.
🤔 A Change of Plans
Panionios had initially focused on bringing in Gianmarco Pozzecco to lead the team. However, negotiations fell through at the last minute. Team president Thodoris Mikropoulos explained the situation, stating, “We had a deal, but he reconsidered.” He emphasized that the team must move on and is now aiming to “sign an even better head coach.”
📉 A Challenging Start to the Season
The search for a new permanent coach comes at a difficult time for Panionios. The team is currently managed by interim coaches Chris Chougkaz and Nikos Karagiannis. They have had a tough start, with a 1-2 record in their EuroCup group and an 0-3 record in Greece’s Stoiximan GBL Regular Season. A new coach is needed to help turn their season around.
🏀 Who is Aleksandar Dzikic?
