Cedevita Olimpija has signed American big man Will McNair Jr. on a two-month contract to strengthen their frontcourt. The 25-year-old center has already arrived in Ljubljana and is expected to join the team for their upcoming road trip.
This move comes as a practical solution for Cedevita Olimpija, which has been dealing with injuries to key players in the paint. For McNair Jr., it is a significant chance to prove his skills on a bigger European stage. The short-term deal gives both the team and the player a chance to see if they are a good fit for each other.
👋 A New Face in the Frontcourt
Will McNair Jr., a 210cm (6'11") center, joins the team after starting the season with Yalovaspor in the Turkish second division. This will be his second season playing professional basketball in Europe. Before turning pro, he played five seasons of college basketball in the NCAA for teams like New Mexico State and Kansas State, appearing in a total of 149 games.
💪 Filling a Much-Needed Gap
The team’s management made the signing to add stability and depth, especially with their big men facing injury issues. Head coach Zvezdan Mitrović noted that it is difficult to find players at this time of the season but hopes McNair Jr.’s “energy, fighting spirit, and approach” will make a positive impact. Sports director Chechu Mulero added that they believe his “physical presence and work ethic will bring additional stability.”
🚀 A Big Opportunity to Shine
McNair Jr. is excited about the move, calling it a “great opportunity to prove myself on a bigger stage.” He has promised to bring excitement and energy to the fans. In his first European season last year with OGM Ormanspor, he was a standout performer, averaging an impressive 15.3 points and 10.1 rebounds per game, showing he can be a dominant force in the paint.
