BCL Announces Green Partner for 10th Season

The Basketball Champions League (BCL) is celebrating its 10th anniversary with a major new partnership. The league has officially named Ameresco SUNEL as the Presenting Partner for its upcoming tenth season. The announcement was made at a special ceremony at FIBA’s headquarters in Switzerland, setting a green and sustainable tone for the future of the competition.

This collaboration is a big step for the BCL, showing a commitment to more than just what happens on the court. By partnering with a leader in clean energy, the league aims to promote environmental responsibility across European basketball. This new agreement builds on a successful partnership during the 2025 BCL Final Four in Athens and signals a long-term vision for creating modern, eco-friendly sports venues.

🤝 A New Partnership for a Milestone Season

The formal announcement was attended by key leaders from both organizations, including BCL CEO Patrick Comninos and SUNEL Group CEO Konstantinos Zygouras. This partnership marks a special moment for the BCL’s tenth season, known as Season X. Ameresco SUNEL, a joint venture between global cleantech company Ameresco Inc. and renewable energy firm SUNEL, will take a leading role in shaping the league’s sustainable future.

🌱 Greener Arenas for Basketball

The main goal of this partnership is to make basketball arenas smarter and more environmentally friendly. Ameresco SUNEL specializes in renewable energy solutions like solar power and battery storage systems. They will work with the BCL to help clubs and venues reduce their carbon footprint and lower energy costs. This initiative is part of SUNEL’s new “The Green Alliance” platform, which is dedicated to helping sports facilities and other large venues transition to clean energy.

🗣️ Looking to a Sustainable Future

Both leaders expressed excitement about the collaboration. Konstantinos Zygouras highlighted their shared commitment to creating a long-term positive impact in sports and building “future-ready communities.” Patrick Comninos added that the BCL was impressed by the innovative ideas for sports venues and looks forward to working together to create “smarter, greener, and more sustainable basketball venues” for clubs, fans, and cities.
