The Spanish city of Badalona is showing strong interest in hosting the 2026 Basketball Champions League (BCL) Final Four. The city has reportedly set aside a significant budget of €900,000, signaling a serious commitment to bringing the major European basketball tournament to its home court.
💰 A Major Financial Commitment
The Badalona City Council has approved this €900,000 fund specifically for organizing the BCL’s final tournament. While an official agreement with FIBA, the basketball governing body, is still being finalized, having the money ready shows that the city is serious and prepared to move quickly once a deal is reached.
🤝 Building Strong Connections
Discussions between Badalona and FIBA have been happening for several months. The city’s mayor, Xavier García Albiol, has been in regular contact with FIBA Europe President Jorge Garbajosa. Garbajosa even attended a home game for the local team, Joventut Badalona, earlier this season, suggesting a positive relationship between the two sides. The mayor is expected to travel to Switzerland soon to continue the negotiations.
🏆 Spain’s Strong BCL History
If Badalona’s bid is successful, it would join a list of other Spanish cities that have hosted the BCL Final Four, including La Laguna (2017), Bilbao (2022), and Málaga (2023). The city’s own team, Joventut, is also performing very well in the current BCL season, adding to the local excitement and making a strong case for hosting the prestigious event.
